A Pew Research Center survey found that only 65% of Americans believe that search engines are a fair and unbiased source of information, which is low considering search engines are the primary place most people go to get their information. In the same survey, only 25% of respondents said that all of the information they get from search engines is accurate and trustworthy.
“Because search engines are automated, there’s a misconception that they display results neutrally and without bias, but that couldn’t be further from the truth,” explained a spokesperson for TUSK. “Algorithms are regularly fed biased data because they rely on historical information. Rather than deciding what search results users will see for them, TUSK Search allows users to choose what results they see based on their own point of view.
