National family law firm Austin Kemp released an industry-first divorce report. The 2020 report covers key data on demographics, average marriage lengths and reasons for divorce throughout 2019. Some eye-opening insights from the report are:
• Unreasonable behaviour accounts to 46.3% of divorces
• 38% of marriages ended by their 20th wedding anniversary
• 26.6% increase in same-sex couple divorces
• Opposite sex divorces down 10.6%.
An Industry First Divorce Report
The Divorce Report 2020 was compiled by the Austin Kemp team who worked with a wide range of data sources, as well as their own internal research, to provide a data snapshot of the divorce landscape. The report is full of facts and figures based on data from the National Office of Statistics and Family Court Services. Austin Kemp have compiled it for greater insight into the landscape of divorce not just for them and the family law industry, but also for journalists and the press to use.

A snapshot of a year in divorce
As respected experts in divorce and family law, the team at Austin Kemp took the time to review the data and statistics from the previous year and to compile their findings into this new report. It contains data published by governmental agencies as well as their own findings. As such, some of the results they have found include the following.
In 2019, there was a 10.6% reduction of opposite sex divorces, but an increase of more than double that, with a 26.6% increase in same-sex divorces. The report also looks into reasons for divorce and circumstances surrounding divorce. For instance, it found that “Unreasonable Behaviour” was given as the primary reason behind 46.3% of divorces, while there was a spike of domestic violence cases, with a 23% increase in 2019.
